Bedford Modern Sixth Form

Support

One of our core aims is to provide individual support for students in the Sixth Form and for all our students that support begins from their first expression of interest. We offer a variety of services to students and parents and encourage you to take us up on these.

Information Evenings, Taster Days and Open Mornings

All of these are an opportunity to get to know more about life in the Sixth Form at BMS but it is also an opportunity to consult with various members of staff about your options and interests.

Careers and Options Consultations

We know that deciding what to study at A level can often be a difficult one and we also know that there is a direct correlation between subject choice and academic results. We can offer individual consultations to parents and students to help provide guidance and support when making your chocies. A consultation will typically be with the Director of Sixth Form and will provide you with the opportunity to explore your A level options in more detail and reflect on what this may mean for your future University choices and career.

Welcome Evening

Our welcome evening in June is a good opportunity to meet us again before the summer break in an informal setting in the Rutherford Building. It is mainly a social event allowing you the opportunity to meet with other students who will be starting in September and a chance for you to meet the person who will be your Senior Tutor. It is also a good opportunity for parents to meet other members of the Sixth Form Team and get acquanited with other new parents.

Induction Day

An Induction day is held for Year 12 on the day prior to the start of term when students have the opportunity to get to know their Tutors and Senior Tutors and other students within their Clusters. The day gives students the opportunity to confirm their timetables and to sort out any issues which may arise in course choices. Year 13 have a period of induction on the first day of term and then go straight to normal lessons.

Y12 Sixth Form Information Evening

In September parents have the opportunity to meet with their son's/daughter's Tutor and Senior Tutor at a Sixth Form Information Evening.

Sixth Form PA Supper

The Parents Association also host a Sixth Form Supper to welcome new parents to the Sixth Form and to provide you with a source of contact from within the parent body.
