Bedford Modern Sixth Form
Academic
Our Courses
The Sixth Form at Bedford Modern School is designed to prepare students for University and we therefore offer an extended Academic Curriculum that offers students a choice of over 28 subejcts at both A and AS level. The size of our Sixth Form is of considerable benefit when you come to choosing your options because we normally run two or more sets in each subject. In practical terms this gives us an extremely flexible curriculum and we can normally accomodate any range of options. It is quite common for other students to transfer to us for their Sixth Form studies for this reason alone.
Entry Criteria
We are a selective Sixth Form and our entry criteria is based upon research carried out both internally and in partnership with Durham University thus ensuring we can offer students the best possible chance in an academic environment.
Entry to Y12
An Alis Score of 5.8 is needed from a minimum of 9 GCSEs. The score is calculated by allocating points to each of the GCSE Grades, A* = 8, A = 7, B = 6, C = 5. Add up your score and then divide by the number of GCSEs to give you your ALIS score.
In addition students must also have a GCSE at grade B or above in the subject they wish to study.
Entry to Y13
Students are required to gain a minimum of three grade C's at AS level in order to continue on into Y13. Our research and experience shows that students who achieve below this level have failed to grasp the fundamentals of 50% of the overall A level course and are therefore unlikely to be successful in continuing through to the full A level and more intellectually demanding material.
